The structure and function of the MoP was laid out in detail in 1997 in Sub-Decree No. 55 (1997).  According to this document, the Ministry of Planning consists of three Directorates:

• the General Directorate of Planning (GDP), which is responsible for guiding and managing national socioeconomic development planning.
• the National Institute of Statistics (NIS), which is responsible for managing the statistical functions of the Royal Government; and
• the General Directorate of Inspection.

These Directorates are headed by Director-Generals, assisted by Deputy Directors-General.  Each Directorate is in turn divided into Departments, each headed by a Director (assisted by Deputy Directors as required). 

These three Directorates are supplemented by:

• the Minister’s Cabinet
• the Personnel Department
• the General Administrative Department
• the Supply and Financial Department
• the Internal Audit Department (created in 2006)
